Hosting events to empower people: Algorithms and Interview Prep

Back in March, I wanted to learn more about algorithms but I could not find a group around San Francisco who offered that so I  started one.  It started very small, average 5 female attendees and I was hosting it at Dev Bootcamp.  We based our studies on watching videos from a Princeton coursera class.

Now this group has growth to average 30+ attendees and now we don’t only cover videos but we also have groups that practice white boarding code challenges, pair programming, behaviour interview prep.  I am also really happy to have a team of 3 other amazing leaders who are helping me with the planning and organization of it, Zoe Madden Wood, Chantal Emmanuel and Laura Montemayor.

Just in case you are interested, we are hosting this event every Monday in different locations and I am really happy to say that different companies around San Francisco offer their offices to host this event (Chartboost, Modcloth, Facebook just to mention some of them) .

Here are couple pics of before (with only 5 aprox. attendees) and after (35 aprox):

If you are interested to learn more about algorithms or if you are preparing to interview for a technical programming position then feel free to join me on Mondays or if you have an idea on how we can improve our event or if you want to help me to create a even greater positive impact to our community of women in tech, please email me to [email protected]
